Fran Balamuth MD, PhD, MSCE is Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine and an Attending Physician in the Division of Emergency Medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She holds both local and national leadership roles in sepsis quality improvement initiatives, is federally funded from the NIH to conduct pediatric sepsis research, and is co-director of the CHOP Center for Sepsis Excellence.
Scott Weiss MD, MSCE is Assistant Professor of Anesthesia & Critical Care and Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine and an Attending Physician in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Weiss holds national leadership roles in areas addressing sepsis epidemiology, clinical care and research, has received both foundational and federal NIH funding to conduct sepsis research, and is co-director of the CHOP Center for Sepsis Excellence.
Senior Clinical Trial Consultant
Nathan Kuppermann, MD, MPH has more than 20 years of experience as a clinical trialist with extensive federal funding. He was the founding Chair of the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN), has led several very large PECARN studies, one enrolling more than 40,000 patients, and has been the PI or co-PI of 5 federally-funded multicenter randomized interventional pediatric trials. He has had more than 200 peer-reviewed publications, has received more than $30 million in grant funding, and is a member of the National Academy of Medicine.
Jill Baren, MD has extensive experience coordinating EFIC for adult trials through the Neurological Emergencies Treatment Trial network (NETT), a prior pediatric trial through PECARN and will provide specific EFIC consultation for this study.
